MUSEUM EXHIBITS

With over 25 years of experience in the museum world, we are dedicated to maintaining the highest standards in exhibit fabrication and installation. In our County Workhouse, we use conservation approved methods and materials to produce award winning exhibits to completion.

We also take our show on the road. Understanding that artifacts must stay within the climate controlled environments of museums and galleries, we pack up our tools and knowhow to work directly within institutions, setting up portable work spaces where we are needed.

Here is a sampling of some exhibit projects:

Aanischaaukamikw Cree Cultural Institute, Ouje-Bougoumou, Quebec

In 2016, we worked with Bouwdesign, to produce the traveling exhibit, “Footprints: A Walk Through Generations”. This required building, transporting and installing all exhibit structure as well as fabricating artifact mounts for everything from clothing, to weaponry, to small archeological finds. This exhibit was awarded the 2018 Governor General’s History Award for Excellence in Museums.

Production began in our work shop in Prince Edward County, Ontario

All exhibit structure was carefully packed and crated for transportation.

Upon arriving at the Aanischaaukamikw Cree Cultural Institute, the exhibit structure was assembled and positioned.

While the structure was being assembled, fabrication of exhibit mounts and mannequins began. The artifacts were then installed once all structure and cases were in place and the exhibit space was clear.

Canadian Science and Technology Museum, Ottawa, Ontario

In 2017, the Canadian Science and Technology Museum in Ottawa was rebuilt and once again we were offered the opportunity to work with Bouwdesign. Production of the, “From Earth to Us” gallery included fabricating artifact mounts, building stylized exhibit cases and structure, producing props and interactive units as well as handling and installing artifacts.

We built house shaped exhibit cases and graphics units and participated in hanging hundreds of light bulb artifacts for Energy Street.

Steel I-beam was welded in our shop to produce an interesting exhibit case on the topic of steel production.

Aluminium sheets and pipes were used to produce a vintage looking, space age interactive about energy.

We made this “ice core” by pouring layers of epoxy and ash.

W.L. Gore Capabilities Center, Newark, Delaware

The Gore Capabilities Center showcases the company’s diverse range of products: biopharmaceutical and medical devices, automotive and aerospace technologies, industrial products, apparel as well as a collection of heritage artifacts. In 2019, the site was updated and redesigned by Bluecadet of Philadelphia. We were hired by The Taylor Group to execute the display of these items on a massive products wall and in the interactive demonstration areas. This challenging project allowed us to employ creative approaches to give life to static objects while maintaining a clear presentation of their products and technologies.

We arranged spaceflight microwave/RF assemblies in a spiral pattern to add visual interest.

A collection of aerospace gaskets were mounted to acrylic and then, using rods for standouts, we created a collage effect.

All objects were mounted to display panels that were then attached to the product wall to create a visual overview of the Gore innovations.

Joseph Brant Museum, Burlington, Ontario

A large addition to the museum was built in 2019 and we were hired by Kubik-Maltbie Inc., to produce artifact mounts that would provide support and focus to the museum’s rich collection.

Many of the mounts were designed to allow the visitor to view the finely detailed artifacts from all angles.

Ottawa Art Gallery, Ottawa, Ontario

We built teak drawer units, designed by Bouwdesign, to display paper prints in the Firestone Gallery as part of the 2018 expansion of the new Ottawa Art Gallery.

Royal Alberta Museum, Edmonton, Alberta

2018 also saw the building of the new Royal Alberta Museum. Working with Easton Museum Services, Kubik Inc., and the museum’s conservation team, we fabricated mounts and installed artifacts ranging from mammoth tusks, to square dancing costumes, to small mineral specimens.

Canada Agriculture and Food Museum, Ottawa, Ontario

For Bouwdesign, we built display units to look like market stalls and then sourced or produced props to illustrate various forms of food preservation. We removed real food from its packaging and then fabricated “fake” food to replace the original.
